Nerva Jean (Elkins) Harris, passed away on August 8, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. She was born on December 4, 1935, in Hazard, Kentucky, to Earnest and Rissie (Caudill) Elkins.
Nerva Jean, known for her feisty and strong-willed nature, will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her loving outspoken personality meant that you never had to wonder what she was thinking. She loved her family, including her dogs, and was an exceptional cook. The memories of her delicious chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy, and vegetable soup will forever be held dear by her loved ones.
Her love for western movies and her dedication to her family were evident throughout her life. Nerva Jean's legacy lives on through the love she shared and the memories she created.
Family meant everything to her, especially her late husband, William "Bill" Harris, whom she shared over 40 years of love and companionship with. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Atha, and son-in-law Floyd of Scottsburg, Indiana. Nerva Jean leaves behind a legacy through her eight grandchildren: Michael Atha (Stephanie), Kelly Spellman (Robert Sherrard), Angie Snelling (Greg), Tina Staschke (Travis), Bobby "Robert" Harris Jr., Robbie Dennis, Jessica Ebbing (Jamie), and Crystal Riley (Jon). She is also remembered by numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Nerva Jean rejoins her son Bobby Gene Harris Sr., son Johnny Miller, and siblings Paul Elkins, William "Ray" Elkins, and Deloris Elkins in eternal peace.
A visitation to honor Nerva Jean's life will be held at the Christensen Family Funeral Home in Seymour, Indiana, on August 14, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on August 15, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow on August 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the same location. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.
As we come together to celebrate the life of Nerva Jean, may we find solace in the cherished memories we hold dear and the everlasting impact she had on each of our lives. She will forever remain in our hearts as a beacon of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
