Nicholas James "Nick" Demongeot Sr., age 78, of Osseo, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at 3:20 p.m. in his son's arms at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1946, in Hudson, to Nicholas and Francis (Behymer) Demongeot. He married Deborah Kay Peterson on December 26, 1987, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2017.
Nick graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1964 and went on to serve his country as an E6 Staff Sergeant Airborne MACV Recondo Ranger, 75th Infantry, Company F (Merill's Marauders). Upon his return he moved to Florida and worked on a shrimp boat for several years before moving back to his hometown of Osseo, Michigan and working at Hillsdale Tool, where he retired from. He was an outdoorsman and loved pheasant hunting, duck hunting, competitive trap, and skeet shooting with his son and friends. He was also a state charter member of the Viet Nam Vets MC (Chapter C), and a long-standing, last surviving member of the "Trees", (Nick Demongeot Sr., Rick Bahlau, Paul Belpasso, and Jerry Bates). Nick went out of his way to live a beautiful, adventurous life with his family and friends.
Nick is survived by his son, Nicholas James Demongeot II Jr., a great nephew Marty Wayne (Angela) Draper, great nephew Chris (Patrice) Davis, great nephew Aaron (Amanda) VanTilburg, great niece India (Justin) Draper-Smith, and cousins Debra (Jae) Royal, Laurie Zehr, Cindy (Bob) Valdez, Brian (Denise) Baker, Christy Bowditch, Shannon Bowditch, Fred (Sharon) Demongeot, Fred Demongeot, and Cindy Demongeot.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Deborah; two siblings, Joann and Don Demongeot, and a niece-in-law, Angela Draper; and a cousin Paul Demongeot.
A visitation for Nick Demongeot Sr., will be on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 6:00–8:00 PM at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
Memorial contributions are suggested to his son, Nicholas James Demongeot II Jr., who will be maintaining the third-generation family house.
