It is with heavy hearts, yet overflowing with enduring love and cherished memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of Nickolas Kay Young on October 12, 2025. At the age of 46, Nic bravely confronted a swift and aggressive cancer, and while his absence leaves an irreplaceable void, we find solace in knowing he is now free from pain and has found peace.
Born on November 26, 1978, to his devoted and grateful parents, Sidney Castle Young and Marcia Wright Young, Nic was a remarkable individual who touched countless lives. He was a beloved son, a steadfast brother to his three siblings, a dear friend to many, and an extraordinary uncle. Nic was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Marvel and Kay Young, Glenn and Dorothy Wright, his uncle Kim Young and his cousin Ty Young. His memory is carried forward by his brothers, Adam (Emily), Michael (Caitlin), and Sean Young and his adoring nieces and nephews: Lucy, Mattie, Macy, Harrison, and Owen Young. Nic’s greatest joy often came from the lively laughter of his nieces and nephews, whom he delighted in spoiling with thoughtful gifts and playful adventures, creating an unbreakable bond that will forever be cherished.
For an impressive three decades, Lagoon wasn't just Nic's workplace; it was a community where his talents shone brightly. Starting in various roles, he ultimately found his niche in the IT Department, where his sharp intellect, creative problem-solving, and genuine warmth towards people truly thrived. He wasn't merely an employee; he was a dedicated colleague and a cherished friend to many within the Lagoon family, leaving a lasting impact through his tireless efforts and collaborative spirit.
Among his many gifts, Nic possessed a deep and abiding love for music, a passion he cultivated from an early age. His talent for playing the trumpet resonated through the halls of Farmington Junior High and Viewmont High School, where he graduated in 1997 with distinguished academic and departmental honors. He particularly relished the camaraderie and vibrant energy of the Viewmont Marching Band. It was during these formative years that Nic forged a lifelong bond with his best friend, Rik Folland. Together, they explored their musical inclinations in various bands and embarked on countless adventures, weaving a tapestry of shared experiences and enduring friendship.
Our family extends its profound gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated teams at Utah Cancer Specialists and the Lakeview Hospital Emergency and Intensive Care Departments. Their exceptional care and unwavering comfort during Nic's challenging journey provided immense support to both him and our family.
To honor and celebrate Nic’s remarkable life, a celebration of Nic’s spirit and legacy will take place at Lagoon in the Biergarten on Thursday the 23rd from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, where friends and family can gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who brought so much joy into the world.
“No matter the struggle, keep your spirit clean and your heart firm in faith. Speak truth, do good works, and spread positive vibration wherever you go. For life is not measured by the things we own, but by the peace we grow inside. One heart, one love, one destiny.” —Bob Marley
