Nina Rosemary Polk Furr
October 22, 1947-January 28, 2025
Mrs. Nina Polk Furr, of
Monroe, North Carolina, was 77 years young when she entered Beulah Land on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. Nina was born on October 22nd, 1947, and was the beloved daughter of the late Brice Carl Polk and Pantha Mayline Smith Polk. Union County was where Nina lived her whole life. Growing up in a large family, Nina was one of five siblings.
She was preceded in death by her sister Jane Polk Greene and is survived by her brother Brice Polk, Jr., and her sisters Susan Sganga and Carolyn Broadway. Nina lived her whole life nurturing her family. Her husband was the late Michael Gene Furr, and they were the parents of two children, the late David Lane Furr, and surviving Sarah Elizabeth Furr. Once her grandchildren, the surviving Michael Thomas Furr (wife Talia and her children) and Emily Marie Hucks (husband Jonathan Hucks) were born, Nina spent her life devoted to raising them. Nina is also survived in death by her precious great-granddaughter Nova Mae Hucks and Nina's beloved companion, her cat Fefe.
Nina's children and grandchildren would like to recognize the important role that her niece Sharon filled. Sharon showed her unconditional love, support, and respect, especially during Nina's twilight years. The family would like to offer a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Sharon for that.
Nina was welcomed into heaven by a joyous reunion that has been eagerly awaited for well over 20 years by her late husband Michael Gene Furr. Their life together was the true definition that true love will always find a way and there are no bounds. From raising babies, building a life and family together, to the trials and tribulations that life places before us, they both always found each other to lean on.
Nina graduated from Forest Hills High School. Afterwards she went to nursing school at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, then known as Cabarrus Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Roses Department Store, the Hilltop Hotel, and Royal Cleaners. At all stages in her life, Nina would care for everybody's babies. From her cherished nieces and nephews at all ages, to her granddaughter's obsession with animals, Nina was a great influence on them and was known as the caretaker. She could never tell a little one "no;" therefore her home was always full of life and laughter. Aside from working and raising her family, Nina's thumb was undeniably green in gardening and her love for cooking was evident. Baking desserts was her specialty. Family and friends could walk in her home to be immediately greeted by sweet aromas and their bellies would start rumbling. Loved by absolutely everybody she met; Nina had the most genuine soul and warm-hearted disposition. Living her life by her unwavering, unconditional love for Christ, she could always be found sitting on her front porch rocking in her chair, reading scripture and jotting notes down in her Bible. Nina's family and friends have no doubt where she is today and are at peace knowing she is with her Lord and Savior.
The family will receive friends on Friday February 7, 2025, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Holland Funeral Service. A service and Celebration of Life will be held shortly afterwards from 11:00 am at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive,
