After graduating from high school, Nolan played baseball with the local American Legion team and from there began his long career as a BIG-TIME softball player. Nolan's talent was that of a third baseman.

As a pastime, he enjoyed hunting rabbits with friends and raised beagles and trained them for field trials.Nolan was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables so that he could give them away to family and friends.

Nolan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was honest, devoted, patient, and maybe a little shy at times. He was also a great friend, who was always available to help a friend in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joyce Landry Menard; his son, Vince Michael Menard and his wife, Jeanne and their daughter, Raegan Rene; and four siblings: Georgie Devillier, Ethel Huval, George "Poncho" Menard, Jr., and Viola "ShuShu" Ardoin and her spouse, Don.
