Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Nolan Paul Menard, 78, who passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:45 PM.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM on Friday.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Kacie Breaux and Luke Bourque. Gift bearers will be Raegan Rene and Kyler Laperouse.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1.
Nolan was born on January 16, 1945, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He was an outstanding athlete at Breaux Bridge High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. After graduating from high school, Nolan played baseball with the local American Legion team and from there began his long career as a BIG-TIME softball player. Nolan's talent was that of a third baseman.
Nolan was a painter for Floyd Breaux Contractors for many years. He retired from Lafayette General Hospital after 20 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard for several years.
As a pastime, he enjoyed hunting rabbits with friends and raised beagles and trained them for field trials.Nolan was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables so that he could give them away to family and friends.
Nolan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was honest, devoted, patient, and maybe a little shy at times. He was also a great friend, who was always available to help a friend in need.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joyce Landry Menard; his son, Vince Michael Menard and his wife, Jeanne and their daughter, Raegan Rene; and four siblings: Georgie Devillier, Ethel Huval, George "Poncho" Menard, Jr., and Viola "ShuShu" Ardoin and her spouse, Don.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, George Menard, Sr. and Viola LeBlanc Menard.
Pallbearers will be Jack Delhomme, Roy Poche, Rodney Dugas, Mike Landry, Kris Devillier, and Blake Huval.
Honorary pallbearers will be his friends in the Morning Coffee Club and members of the Pete Nicolosi Softball team.
