Norbert Don Owen, aged 92, peacefully passed away on November 9, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Born on April 21, 1933, in Oilton, Oklahoma, Don led a long life marked by dedication, service, and a spirit of adventure.
A talented professional, Don wore many hats throughout his life’s work. As a younger man, he was a cowboy and a bull-rider. He travelled around the Southern United States tending to cattle, breaking horses, and competing in bull riding competitions, winning the National Title in the early 1950s. Later in his career, he served as the Director of General Contractor, the Director at State Hospital South, and the Director of Student Services for the Eastern Idaho Voc-Tech School. He was also recognized for his role as a Tech Prep Coordinator at Boise State University and spent time as a grant writer, showcasing his commitment to education and community improvement.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Don proudly served in the Army during the Korean War Era, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his commendable service. He exemplified the values of discipline and dedication, both in military service and in his contributions to society.
Outside of his professional commitments, Don had a rich personal life filled with hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising pigeons, known in the Treasure Valley to sweep the competition in pigeon shows. His inquisitive nature also extended into health research, reflecting a lifelong passion for learning and exploration. Don was also very deeply spiritual, and always willing to aid those in need. This could be seen in his involvement with the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ).
Don cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eralyn Owen, and his daughters, Donera and Deralyn Owen, who remember him not only as a husband and father but as a source of inspiration and humor. He is also survived by his dog, Dondee, who is known to rest underneath his office table.
In celebration of Don’s life, a graveside service will take place at the Snake River Canyon National Cemetery in Buhl, Idaho on November 14, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to honor the memory of a devoted husband, father, and community member who leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure.
