Norma Mae Cottenham, a beloved educator, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025. Born on May 21, 1932, to Harold and Minnie (Potter) Dasen, Norma was a gentle soul who touched the lives of many through her commitment to education and community. Norma began her career teaching in one-room schoolhouses in Shiawassee County before starting a family. Her passion for teaching endured, as she continued to substitute teach after raising her children. She held a degree in education from Central Michigan University, proudly influencing generations of young minds with her nurturing spirit and dedication to learning. Beyond her professional life, Norma embodied a love for life that extended into her hobbies and interests. An avid golfer, music enthusiast, skilled seamstress, and exceptional baker, she found joy in the simple pleasures of cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. A lifelong member of Vernon United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Norma was deeply rooted in her faith and community, spreading kindness and generosity wherever she went. Norma is survived by her loving husband, William Cottenham; her devoted daughter, Kristine (Bill) Lepior; and her cherished son, William Cottenham II. She took great pride in her grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Park and Benjamin (Jamie) Lepior, and will be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Malakai, William, Jenna, and Audrey, who brought abundant joy to her life. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Dasen, Virginia Cottenham, and Helen Cottenham. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Minnie Dasen, and her brother, Orville Dasen. Each of these family members held a special place in her heart, and their memories remain forever cherished. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, March 10, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM Monday at the funeral home. The burial will take place privately at Fremont Cemetery in Bancroft, MI. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Karen K Dasen Memorial Scholarship Shiawassee Community Foundation (www.shiacf.org).
