Norma Scherotter Levenson passed away in her El Paso home at the age of 100 on July 16, 2024. She lived a sweet and long life of compassion for others, love of life, and devotion to family and friends. She added fun and joy to the lives of everyone who knew her. There never was a sweeter person.

Norma was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 26, 1923, to Abe and Henrietta Scherotter, of blessed memory. She grew up in El Paso, graduating from El Paso High School in 1941, and the then Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy (UTEP) in 1945. She married Sam Levenson of El Paso, who passed away in 2001, in December of that year.

Norma and Sam raised three children in Lubbock, Texas, where Norma was fully engaged in all aspects of support for Temple Shaareth Israel and was a tireless volunteer in her children’s schools throughout the 1950s and 60s. When Sam began a new business venture in New Mexico in the 1970s, they moved to Albuquerque. There Norma taught cooking classes for seniors through the Assistance League of Albuquerque for many years and enjoyed games of golf and social bridge with her myriad friends.

After the death of her husband, Norma moved back to El Paso, where she lived for the last 23 years of her life. Many childhood friends welcomed her with open arms, and she made countless new friends. Norma was a life-long party giver and didn’t stop hosting dinner parties and other gatherings in her home until she turned 99. She loved El Paso.

Norma will be mourned and missed by her children: Marlene (Steve) Golden and Michael (Daniela) Levenson. Her son Bob passed away in 2022. Also surviving her are grandchildren Jeffrey (Celia) Golden; Lori Golden and Greg Barnes; Greg Levenson; Ben, Jacob, and Rebecca Levenson. Norma leaves 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Temple Mt. Sinai, 4408 N Stanton St. El Paso, TX 79902. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Temple Mt. Sinai.
