Norma H. Sommer, born on June 4, 1948, to her parents Edward and Norma, passed away peacefully on October 25 2024, at the age of 76. A devoted individual who cherished her family, Norma made her mark as a dedicated bus driver for the Half Hollow Hills School District, where embraced the joy of connecting with the children in her community.
Norma's journey began in a time that shaped her into the thoughtful and loving person she became. She pursued her education and earned her G.E.D., showcasing her commitment to lifelong learning and responsibility. Her warmth and caring nature resonated with everyone she met, and she continually prioritized the happiness and well-being of those around her.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Suzette Leverock and her husband, John, and Melissa Peppe, as well as her son, Robert Mahr. Norma was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, each of whom cherished their time with her and will carry her memory forward in their hearts. Norma is also survived by her dearest sisters, Debbie Barrale and her husband Steven, and Lynn Mossner and her husband Greg.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert J. Sommer, who held a special place in her heart for a loving 37 years and undoubtedly continued to inspire her throughout her life. She is also predeceased by her brother Edward Hocoluk.
A visitation will be held at Mangano Family Funeral Home on November 2, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A prayer service is scheduled for the same day at 3:30 PM. The funeral home is located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY 11729.
Norma's legacy of devotion, love for her family, and community spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
