Norman William Mitchell

Norman William Mitchell of Dedham, Massachusetts (formerly of East Dennis, Massachusetts) a retired civil engineer and U.S. Army Ranger, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on May 1, 2025, in Milton. He was 91.
Born June 30, 1933, in Boston, he was the son of the late Albert G. Mitchell and Mary E. Mitchell (Mahoney). After attending Northeastern University, Norman worked as a civil engineer for Barnes & Jarnis Inc., Andrew Christo Engineers, and Hayden-Wegman Consulting Engineers in Boston. Norman was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Massachusetts National Guard and a member of the 9th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He completed his Ranger training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and served with distinction in the U.S. Army.
He was predeceased by his father and mother; three brothers, Gerald P. Mitchell, Kenneth W. Mitchell, and Albert G. Mitchell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen H. Mitchell; his children, Laura E. Mitchell, Diana K. Mitchell, Erin Bolger and her husband John of Canton, Michelle Bolger and her husband Robert of Walpole and Thomas Tierney and his partner Jeannie Paparazzo of Dedham. Loving grandfather of Sophia L. Mitrokostas, Jordan E. Gagnon, Stefanos Mitrokostas, Mitchell C. Fox, Ciara Bolger, John Lloyd Bolger, Colleen Bolger, Caitlin Bolger, Bobby Bolger, Brendan Bolger, Caela Bolger, Erika Tierney, Shawna Tierney and Gavin Tierney. Also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, West Roxbury. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
