Nydia Rodriguez, a young 91, joined her adoring husband on August 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Nydia was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on April 2, 1933 to the late Monserrate and Quintin Rivera. Nydia was strong in her faith and a member of Christ the Redeemer in Mount Holly. She was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council #7814 and served as their secretary. She was a master chef in her kitchen making savory, traditional Puerto Rican dishes. When entering her home, the smell of her cooking sent you to a place of pure joy for your tummy. Atlantic City and Las Vegas were favorite spots where she filled her pockets with slot machine winnings. She was a lucky lady! Traveling was a big part of her life. As a military spouse she lived in France, Germany, and Panama. She always took advantage of being overseas by exploring all that each country and neighboring countries had to offer. Her favorite adventure was a road trip from Panama to New Jersey which brought incredible memories with new friends met along the way. She was the matriarch of her family, and her adventurous spirit and generosity of heart will be missed by all who loved and adored her.
Nydia was predeceased by her amazing husband of 56 years, Jorge. She is survived by her dedicated children: George Rodriguez and his partner Edna Santiago and Nilda Robertson and her husband Steven; siblings, Iraida Sargent, Anna Maria Abrahante and the late Angelina Rivera; grandchildren, Sherri Robertson, Adam Robertson and his wife Dana; and great-grandmother to Daphne, Callen and Olivia.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 12pm-2pm at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road Mount Laurel, NJ 08054 followed by her memorial service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/.
