Nylda Ortiz Comeaux, 93, a 72-year resident of Pasadena, Texas, peacefully entered her eternal rest on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Nylda was born on September 13, 1931 to Esteban and Rita Ortiz Tulla in Utuado, Puerto Rico, where she grew up on the family coffee plantation.
After moving to San Antonio to attend Our Lady of the Lake College (Catholic), she relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend Loyola University (Catholic), pursuing a Pre-Medical degree, with the intention of becoming a doctor. There she met Joe Comeaux; they wed on December 26, 1951.
In the Pasadena area, Nylda was active at St. Pius V Catholic Church where all seven of the Comeaux children attended school. She arranged flowers year-round for Masses as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, assisted as a volleyball and softball coach, and joined the Girl Scouts as a troop leader. This led to 60 years of volunteer service for the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, where she specialized in teaching crafts to the leaders.
Her passions included plants, wine-making, raising chickens, Clark Gable, making her famous home-made bread, thrifting at Prime/Alamo, and babies.
She is survived by daughters, Dr. Margaret Western of Mayhill, New Mexico, Nylda Eckhoff of Aiken, South Carolina, Theresa Danne of Pasadena, Texas, Maria Tyrrell of Spring, Texas, Anne-Marie Comeaux of Rosenberg, Texas, and Cathy Comeaux-Wright of Richmond, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Joseph S. Comeaux; son, Anthony Comeaux; sister, Yvette Robles Guevarra; brother, Steve Ortiz; and her parents.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 824 Main St., Pasadena, Texas 77506, officiated by Fr. Wayne Wilkerson. A Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions will be graciously accepted by the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (gssjc.org) in memory of Nylda Comeaux.
