Walter Kondig

LUNENBURG: Walter Kondig, 82, of Lunenburg, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born in New Bedford, MA, on April 17, 1943, to Walter William Kondig and Rosalie (Lubera) Kondig. He was a 1961 graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Fitchburg State College in 1965. Walter had a long and varied career. For twenty years, he worked in the Research & Design Department at the Foster Grant Company in Leominster. Following its closure, he continued serving the community at Inpatient Detox in Leominster and later at Naukeag – McLean Hospital in Ashburnham. Most recently, Walter served as an administrator for GED testing at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, helping individuals reach their academic goals. An accomplished cook and baker, Walter was well known among friends for his ginger scones and banana bread, and by his granddaughters for his "perfect" grilled cheese sandwiches. He taught cooking classes and shared his culinary talents with his friends in the ALFA (Adult Learning in the Fitchburg Area) group. He treasured the friendships he made through Lois W. Walter had a wonderful sense of humor, a generous spirit, and a keen eye for a great deal. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Deborah (Scaduto-Bossidy) Kondig; his children Ann Kondig-Elliott and her husband Timothy, William C. Kondig, and Kathleen (Bossidy) O'Brien and her husband Dan; and his beloved granddaughters, Ayla and Mya. He is also survived by his brother John Kondig and wife Claire, brother-in-law Fred Timerson, nephews Paul Kondig and Tim Timerson, and niece Mary Timerson-Wilson. Walter was predeceased by his parents, sister Katherine Timerson, longtime friend Betty Binns Leadway, and Barbara (LaBelle) Kondig. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, kindness, and the many lives he touched through his work, friendships, and generosity. A Celebration of Life will be held at New Life Church, 834 Main Street, Leominster, MA 01453, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with stories, food, and fellowship immediately following.
