Ora Glen Townsend

BRITTON-Ora Glen Townsend, age 80, of rural Britton, died late Saturday evening, November 9, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family and in the care of Elara Caring Hospice, following a lengthy battle with Dementia. He was born August 10, 1944, in Highland Park, MI, the son of Ora John and Elsie (Gray) Townsend. Ora grew up in Belleville, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1964.
Ora married the love of his life, Sandra Ann Weiss of Wayne, on November 9, 1963, in Wayne. They celebrated their 61st anniversary on the day of his passing. Together, they raised four children and instilled in them strong Christian values and honorable work ethics.
A hard worker himself, Ora worked in manufacturing alternators for Ford Motor Company for 37 years before his retirement in 2000. Ora was a man of deep faith, and loved his church and his pastors at True Word Tabernacle in Bluffton, OH. An outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed taking his family on numerous camping trips to his piece of property near the river in Atlanta, MI. Ora could fix or build virtually anything he set his mind to with his vast aptitude for mechanics and carpentry. He was a strict yet caring and committed father, whose strong convictions provided sound advice to his children throughout the years. Aside from his love of Jesus Christ, Ora's greatest passion in life was his family, whom he adored with every ounce of his being. He will be sorely missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sandy, are three children, Daryl (Nicole) Townsend of Adrian, David (Sarah) Townsend of Greenwich, OH, and Corrine (Greg) Hedges of Tiffin, OH; a brother, Edward Townsend of Belleville; two sisters, Irene Wall of Houghton Lake, MI and Ruth Potter of Brooklyn, MI; seventeen grandchildren, William, Hannah, Micah, Esther, Kyle, Jonathon, Benjamin, Wade, Isaac, Harmony, Troy, Levi, Carolyn, Kal, Daniel, Anna and Jacob; 11 great-grandchildren and one on-the-way.
Ora was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Duane Glen Townsend; brother, Orville Townsend; sister, Mary Townsend; son-in-law, Jeffrey Kohli; and siblings-in-law, Dorothy Townsend, Richard Wall and Richard Potter.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Tecumseh, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service for Ora will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Senior Pastor Ray Erickson and Pastor Wayne Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee County Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh.
