Owen "Les" Byrd

Owen "Les" Leslie Byrd, born on April 26, 1945, in New Albany, IN, passed away on October 15, 2025. Les, a resident of Mauckport, Indiana, lived a fulfilling life filled with love and shared joys. Les, a retired Property Accountant, spent the majority of his career at LG&E, where he established lifelong relationships and left an indelible mark. Les' love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies which included hunting, fishing, horseback riding and enjoying rides with his beloved dog, Ruff, on his 4-wheeler. Sunday drives in his Corvette, riding his Harley Davidson, operating his tractor, mowing, were some of his favorite pastimes. Les was a member of the Southern Indiana Pilot Association and a former Corydon Moose Lodge Member, where he contributed significantly and formed lasting bonds.
Before his departure, Les was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Byrd and Anna Mae Byrd.
Les leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn Byrd; his son, Brandon Byrd (Tracy Jesse); brother, Randy (Jane) Byrd; sister, Tandy (Walter) Ducan.
Les' life will be honored at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home (318 East Chestnut Street, Corydon, Indiana 47112) on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM. A memorial visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the service time of 1:00 PM at the funeral home on Thursday.
