It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pamela Kaschner Whyte - beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Pam passed away at her Toms River home on April 28, 2025 at the age of 78.
Born to the late Walter Kaschner and Helen (Sinnott) Kaschner on February 8th, 1947, Pam was raised in Newark. She had an idyllic childhood filled with Sunday drives with her parents to the 'country' to sample ice cream and hot dog stands, and her friends regularly gathered around her family's television, which she proudly declared was the first in her neighborhood.
After high school, Pam ventured out of NJ and up to Boston where she attended Fisher Junior College, focusing on fine art and secretarial skills. In between her studies, she met the debonair Joseph Whyte, whose dashing looks and borrowed convertible swept her off her feet.
Not long after, Pam and Joe moved back to NJ, settling in Matawan for the next thirty years. They married in 1969 and went on to have three children - Walter, Joseph, and Hilary. In addition to being a doting parent, Pam was also the treasurer of the Junior Women's Club; a disciplined exerciser who walked an hour every night; a voracious reader; and a true Jersey girl who enjoyed tanning on the patio with her foil reflector.
Pam began working as an administrative assistant at The New School of Monmouth County around 1989, and these were some of the most colorful years of her life. Around 2004 she transitioned to Marlboro Early Learning Center, where she remained until her retirement.
When she wasn't working, Pam enjoyed visits to the Boardwalk with her grandkids, where she excelled at actually winning claw machine prizes. Her luck often transferred to slot machines as well, and she and Joe were familiar faces in AC. She loved taking trips when she could, especially those that led her to her children - including Germany, Ireland, England, Washington DC, and more.
We are certain that Pam would say her greatest accomplishment was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She showered them with gifts at every opportunity (definitely her love language!) and her adoration of them was palpable and powerful. Everyone should know the love of a Pam.
Though cancer took its toll these last couple of years, it couldn't fully dampen Pam's unique spirit - she wore her signature makeup and jewelry as often as she could; she kept up with her favorite tv including Notre Dame Football and 'Jersey Shore;' and she laughed freely (and sometimes uncontrollably) for as long as she was able.
Pam is predeceased by her parents; husband, Joseph; and precious pugs, Max 1 and Max 2. She is survived by her three children; her daughter-in-law Bronwen; and her five grandchildren - Courtney (25), Seosaph (18), Kaschner (17), Margot (12), and Mabel (5.)
While Pam did adore flowers, please also feel free to make a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Bedle Funeral Home, 212 Main St,
