Patricia (Patt) Womack Giddings passed away on January 18, 2023, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Dr. Mark Bender and Dr. David Hartman officiating. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Scotland, Texas.
Mrs. Giddings was born in Spring Creek, Texas, on November 29, 1937, to Wesley David Womack and Ada Ester Pounds Womack. She graduated from Megargel High School in May of 1956 and enrolled at Midwestern University just two weeks later. One of the first people she met that summer was to eventually become her husband. She and George Giddings, an Illinois farm boy attending MU on the GI Bill; they were wed on November 21, 1959, and were married 46 years before his death in 2006. The couple enjoyed country living in the rural Scotland area their entire married life, where they raised their two sons, who chronically complained that they lived twenty miles from everything.
Mrs. Giddings earned a BS Degree from Midwestern and later the Master's Degree in Education from Midwestern State University.
She retired in May of 2001 from teaching business, journalism, and English for thirty years. She taught at Windthorst ISD for six years before moving to Archer City High School where she completed the last 24 years. During her long career, she served as sponsor/advisor/coach of National Honor Society, cheerleaders, One-Act Play, school newspaper, and many business, speaking, and journalism UIL events. She was a charter member of the newly formed ATPE educational organization and served as secretary to the local chapter for nearly twenty years.
She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Wichita Falls, serving in many capacities. She was on several boards, a member and officer of CWF, and she served on the diaconate. Mrs. Giddings was also selected elder emeritus in 2018.
Mrs. Giddings was voracious reader and an active and enthusiastic member of the Archer Book Club. In over twenty years of membership, she rarely missed a monthly meeting. She was also a member of the Wichita Area Cattlewomen and Chapter EA of P.E.O. In addition, she loved being a part of Culture and Cuisine Colloquy, a small group of women who met monthly for twelve years to study a particular country, decorate a table, and prepare a full meal featuring a menu from that special area. Nothing was too elaborate, too funny, or too out-of-the box for these gatherings. They studied a total of 92 countries from around the world and often remarked that if they could remember just half of what was presented, they'd be the smartest people in the world.
Realizing that many of her friends seldom got to enjoy home cooked desserts, in 2016, Patt set aside the first Monday of each month as Cake Day USA. She secretly selected a state and baked a cake representing that area, and she served it to friends and neighbors after she told the history of the cake or interesting facts regarding the preparation of the dessert. A total of 47 different cakes were served.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Giddings and his wife, Staci, of Wichita Falls; Benjamin Giddings of Richardson; and two grandsons, Grant and Greyson Giddings of Wichita Falls. Also surviving is one brother, Delwin (Bud) Womack and his wife, Janis, of Pflugerville, Texas and their daughter Carlynn, also of Pflugerville, as well as Emmy Radosevic Cortez of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, who has been her "adopted" daughter for over thirty years. Emmy's family includes husband, Alphonso, and their children, Gabriela and Rodrigo, along with granddaughter, Valentina.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Archer Library Memorial Fund, Box 957, Archer City, Texas, the Scotland Volunteer First Department, P.0. Box 103, Scotland, Texas, or the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 2400 Taft, Wichita Falls, Texas, 76308.

It was an honor when Patt asked me to join her Cake Day group. She was a wonderful, fun, intelligent, interesting lady. She will be missed by many friends.
