Patricia A. White ("Pat"), a performer, director, producer, and passionate promoter of the arts in NH, passed on peacefully in
Nashua, New Hampshire on October 14, 2025.
In 1930, Patricia was born in New York, New York. Patricia's parents were both artists, and her home was filled with art supplies and portraits, but Patricia was drawn to theatre after playing Joan of Arc in eleventh grade. Following high school, Patricia attended Lycoming College in Pennsylvania (courtesy of her father's portrait of the college President) and also studied voice at the Julliard School of Music. However, after falling in love and marrying her husband Jerry White, she moved with him to California. She finished her BA in Speech and Drama at Whittier College, and also forced herself to learn how to drive.
In California, Patricia and Jerry were both actively involved in college and local theater including working with the renowned children's theatre director John Hume in Downey, California. They regularly drove to Vegas in their convertible to enjoy the free shows, danced with friends at Disneyland, hiked at National Parks, and started a family.
Patricia, Jerry and their children moved to New Hampshire in the early 1960s and settled in Amherst, NH. They were early members of the Nashua Theatre Guild where Patricia performed in their 1964 production of "Enemy of the People." She had a long time commitment to the group participating as Producer, Director, Stage Manager, Performer, and President and Vice President of the organization. She performed in countless plays including a musical version of "Sleeping Beauty," "Haunting of Hill House," "Angel Street," "Forty Carats," "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs," an all female production of "Twelve Angry Men," and "Lovers and Other Strangers.".
Patricia also participated in the Center Stage Company's production of "Chairs" by Eugene Ionesco, was a stage manager and performer with the Merrimack Valley Theatre Company, performed with The New Hampshire Stage Company, and participated in many musicals at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. She also sang with the Nashua Choraliers and the Nashua Chorale Society. Many times, the entire family would be involved in the plays or musical performances as accompanists, chorus members, and stage managers. She never missed a chance to see her son Scott play the piano or organ, and flew to California to see the first play directed by her daughter, Mirth.
She further promoted the arts as the coordinator of the Soughegan Theatre Council's Theatre Games Workshops for students. In 1976, Patricia developed a creative dramatics program for children at the Nashua Arts & Science Center. She was active in the PTA, and was a volunteer for the Junior Great Books program. Although she was a City girl at heart, Pat enjoyed visits with the family to the White Mountains to hike to the waterfalls and to enjoy local crafts festivals at Sunapee and the Lakes Region.
Later in life, Patricia was a Charter member of the New Hampshire Community Theatre Association, and acted as the Nashua Theatre Guild delegate to the NHCTA Board. She was the American Association Community Theatre ("AACT") Region I representative for over eight years. In 2004, Pat was honored with the the Distinguished Merit Award from AACT in recognition of her contributions made to "promote and develop the highest standards for Community Theatre."
Patricia was a life long Christian Scientist, a former soloist at the First Church of Christ Scientist, Milford and member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Nashua, where she worked on the music committee up until her passing.
Patricia was a lovely woman in all respects, and will be missed by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerome V. White, and her son Richard Scott White. She is survived by her daughter, Mirth White, her granddaughters Arianell Schaefer and Sue Mai White, her daughter-in-law Lori White, and her brother-in-law, Edward White. There will be no services at this time; however, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for both Patricia and Jerry White at a date to be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local theatre or music organizations, or just dedicate a performance to her.
