Patrick John Belsom

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Patrick John Belsom, 79, of Metairie, Louisiana. He peacefully passed away on December 8, 2025. Pat was born in New Orleans on July 3, 1946, to the late Selma "Nene" Ponthieux Belsom and the late Leon "Pat" Belsom. He is preceded in death by his wife Rita Melancon Belsom and his children, David Patrick Belsom and Lisa Ann Belsom. He is survived by his loving sisters, Elaine Belsom Craig (Michael) and Janice Belsom Corb (John) and his best friend and uncle Gary Ponthieux (Sue). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Becky Goodwin, Jeff Craig, Janene Goebel, Jennifer Corb, Jessica Corb, Jonathan Corb, and Adam Corb.

Pat was a member of the Class of 1965 at Fortier High School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Army until 1969, when he came home to marry his high school sweetheart, Rita. He then joined the New Orleans Police Department where he dedicated 30 years of service to the city of New Orleans. After retiring from the NOPD, he briefly worked at the Federal Courthouse and the New Orleans Passport Office. He was a member of the Federal Order of Police, Crescent City Lodge 2, American Legion Post 307, and the Veterans Umpire Association.

After the loss of his wife and children, he began serving his community by working with special needs children and delivering meals to the elderly. He enjoyed playing softball, shooting pool, attending the Fairgrounds to watch horse racing, and umpiring softball games at local parks. What he most looked forward to were meals with friends and family. He will be missed by all of his breakfast and lunch buddies, and most importantly by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
