Patrick Nicholas Berg
Born on March 24th, 2003, Patrick died far too soon on September 7th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David H. Berg, and maternal grandparents, Ruby and Richard Lofton. He is mourned and missed by his parents, Pam and Pete Berg; his brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Daniel Berg; his paternal grandmother, Rita Berg; more than a dozen aunts and uncles; more than two dozen cousins; and friends too numerous to count.
An Indianapolis guy through-and-through, Patrick was born at St. Francis on the southside, raised in St. Matthew's parish on the northside, attended grade school at St. Monica on the westside and high school at Scecina on the eastside, graduating in 2022. Hard-working and conscientious, Patrick liked to tell people he was a Professional Forklift Driver, a skill he learned as a two-year employee of Piper Logistics.
Though Patrick was gifted only a brief 21 years on this Earth, he lived, laughed, and loved enough to fill several long, full lifetimes. He thoroughly enjoyed sports and outdoor activities-football, soccer, baseball, swimming, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, tennis, and especially fishing and golf-and he also loved to dance and sing, with a repertoire that ranged from Frank Sinatra tunes to Let It Go, the hit song from Disney's Frozen. Most of all, though, Patrick loved spending time with his family and friends. Whether it was fishing with his dad and uncle, clowning around with his mom, playing driveway hoops with his brothers and cousins or watching a football game with his friends, Patrick lived in the moment-and he helped others do the same. He could be serious or silly, but he was always positive and upbeat. His cousins cherish their memories of rowdy games of sardines and ping-pong, foosball and Mario Kart, and the ever- hotly-contested Turkey Bowl on Thanksgiving Day. His friends' treasured memories run the gamut from simple late-night conversations to celebrations of major life events such as graduations and weddings, and everything in-between.
Many of Patrick's friends say he was their best friend. There's a good reason for that. Patrick was unfailingly kind and truly genuine. He treated every single person-no matter who, what, why, or where-as nothing less than a friend, and he had a way of making them feel seen, heard, and appreciated. His smile could light up a room, and his rumbling laughter was contagious.
If grief is the price we pay for love, little wonder we are grieving so deeply right now. That grief will lessen with time, but it will never go away completely, because the love we feel for Patrick will never go away. So, if we want to honor him, and to hold onto him, and to keep him alive in our heart, maybe we should try our best, each day, to love as he did. We may be surprised by the joy it brings.

He was the most kind and gentle soul. I will never forget his purity. And my heart breaks so deeply for his friends and family. And selfishly for myself, because good people are too rare. The world needs people like him. It is cruel that we don't get to have one more good man in the world.

Thanks for the joyous memories Pat. Wish I would´ve reached out when you crossed my mind. You lit up every room you entered and I know you´ll continue to do the same up in heaven.
