Patrick "Pat" Robert Clements, 68, of LaFayette, went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he will be remembered as a man of deep integrity, sharp wit, and a boundless love for his family and friends.
Pat was born on September 5, 1956, to Charles Clements Jr. and Martha Greer Clements in LaFayette. He grew up with a strong sense of family and a keen mind that developed into a passionate and distinguished career in law.
Pat graduated from Samford University and Cumberland School of Law. Upon his graduation in 1981, he returned to LaFayette to practice law with his father. In 1984 he was appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris as the Solicitor General of Walker County, a position he held for more than three decades. He also served as the Solicitor General of the Rossville, Chickamauga, and Fort Oglethorpe Municipal Courts. Following his retirement in 2018 he remained an Assistant Solicitor for Walker County and the acting Solicitor for the City of Fort Oglethorpe.
He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Lookout Mountain Bar Association, the LaFayette Elks Lodge, and many other community organizations throughout the years. He was a lifelong member of LaFayette First Baptist and his relationship with Christ was reflected in how he treated others.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Oliver Clements; Children: Taylor Bryant (Max), Bailey (Peyton), Patrick "Chaed" (Claire); Grandchildren: Patrick and Quillie B.; his brother Charles "Chuck" Clements III and sister Emily Elizabeth "Betsy" Walker; his Father and Mother-in-law, Alton and Dean Oliver; and many extended beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Clements Jr. and Martha Greer Clements. He loved all animals, especially his stray neighborhood cats, squirrels, birds, and his grand-dogs, Max, Lucy, and Willow.
Pat lived a life of purpose, passion, and many laughs. His family was his biggest priority and greatest joy. A lover of golf, food, and travel, he had a larger-than-life presence that turned every occasion into a good time.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at LaFayette First Baptist, and the service will be held on Friday, March 28, at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Derrick Fielder officiating. He will lie in state (hopefully) for an hour before the service.
Interment will be held at the LaFayette City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Keith Copeland, Dave Gilbert, Wade Gilbert Sr., Stacy Higdon, Alan Pritchett, Donny Peppers, Hill Pope, and Don Ritchie.
Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Clements, Derrick Daniel, Janie Gilbert Grinnell, David Hentz, Ross Littlejohn, Terry Shropshire, Betsy Clements Walker, The Fort Oglethorpe Municipal Court, and The Walker County State Court.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pat's honor to the Walker County Animal Shelter, or your favorite charity.
