Patrick Russell Fedewa died at home in the care of his family on January 3, 2024 after a well-fought fifteen year battle with cancer.
He was born in Carson City, Michigan, on October 11, 1978, the son of Ken and Theresa (Cornwell) Fedewa. He earned his Bachelor Degree at Lawrence Tech and his Master's Degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology and fulfilled his dream of being an architect. Pat worked with Pratt Design Studio in Chicago from 2005 - 2011 and continued to remain close with his friends there through the years. In June of 2011 he joined Eckenhoff Sanders Architects where he served as an IT-Technology Guru, Revit/CAD software guru, and Architectural Designer who worked on over 140 healthcare and industrial projects including the Carle Curtis Clinic, Christie Clinic at the Fields, Champaign Surgery Center at the Fields, NorthShore Hospital Systems-Skokie Ambulatory Center, Steiner Electric, Laborer's Union Training Facility, and the Jeld-Wen Chanute Air Base Hanger. He received 345 North Morgan Awards: AIA Chicago Design Excellence Awards-Award of Merit/Interior Architecture (2023, AIA Chicago Lerch Bates People's Choice Awards Finalist-Hospitality & Retail (2023), IIDA RED Award Winner-Best of Show and People's Choice (2023), ASID Design Excellence Awards, Shaw Contract Design Awards-Best of Globe & Best Regional, Illinois Real Estate Journal Awards-Interior Design-Urban, Greater Chicago Food Depository Comercial Real Estate Awards-Commercial Development of the Year (2023), and for Chicago Building Congress-Commercial Construction over 50 million-Finalist in 2023.
At ESA, if you had a problem, you went to Pat. He sent his e-mails with Spongebob's friend Patrick Star's picture on it, with hard hat and hammer because he was always ready to work. His work was his life's passion, took great pride in it, and he always helped make everyone better.
Pat was a man of few words, but with deep emotion and a quiet confidence. He held a special connection with his mother, his best friend, and they were always there for each other. He had a big heart for his four nieces and nephew, and was ever proud of their accomplishments. He loved music, golf, tech support for his family, and was always thinking generously, giving to others, and wanted to contribute where he could.
In October he got his final wish- a special trip, a "boy's weekend", to Traverse City. He fought hard to be with his family as long as he could-persevering and never complaining through his journey and battle with cancer, and succeeding in living ten years longer than the doctors believed he would. Pat's family would like to acknowledge and thank his Northwestern Hospital team of Dr. Priya Kumthekar and PA-C Meg Schwartz, who companioned Pat and took amazing care of him through his years of battling cancer.
Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Fedewa-Wells, his brother, Jon Fedewa, uncles, Tim and Terry Cornwell, and Gerard & Annette Fedewa.
He is survived by his father, Ken (Roxane) Fedewa; his sisters, Aimee Jones (Patrick Shaffer), Beth Hamiel (Dwayne); his brother, Josh Fedewa (Rachel); step-father, Roger Wells; step-brother, Brian Wells (Becca); step-sister, Christine John (Mike); nieces and nephews, Lexi, Skylar, Ireland, Jonathan, Alyssa, Alessandra, and Joselyn; aunts and uncles, Tomi Ann Schultheiss (Jim), Dorothy Cornwell, Bill & MaryAnn Young, Helena & Gary Platte, Dave Fedewa, as well as many extended family members, friends, Brian and Colleen Lillie and many other dear friends.
"Lay down my dear brother, lay down and take your rest." (Grateful Dead)
