WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Patrick (Pat) J. Kelly shares the unexpected news of his passing at his home on June 3, 2025, at the age of 69.
Pat was born on March 20, 1956, in Waterbury the son of the late John A. and Theresa "Tiki" (Desbois) Kelly. Pat was a lifelong Waterbury resident, growing up in the East Mountain neighborhood where he developed a passion for music and engineering. As a child raised in the 1960s and early 70s, Pat had a strong interest in Rock music and became a highly skilled guitar player, something he continued to enjoy throughout his life.
A graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury, Pat went on to become a manufacturing engineer, having earned an Associate Degree from Waterbury State Technical College. After college, Pat worked in a variety of engineering roles at different firms, including Pratt & Whitney. He was the type of person who could fix or build anything and was always working on a project. Rumor has it that in his teens, he actually built a car using junkyard parts.
Later in life, he embraced the role of caregiver as he lovingly oversaw the in-home care of his mother, Theresa, whose health was failing and then his brother, Michael, who had battled cancer.
Besides his parents Pat is predeceased by his brother, Michael Kelly, Sr. Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his aunt, Diane Giroux of Waterbury, CT; his sister, Sharon (Stanley) Kapustinski of Meriden, CT; nieces and nephews including Carlin (Peter) Daniels of East Hampton, CT; Katelyn Kelly of Oakville, CT; David (Kristin) DiLeo of Canonsburg, PA; Timothy (Darla) DiLeo of Wethersfield, CT; Michael Kelly, Jr. of Waterbury, CT; Jacob Kapustinski of China; John Kelly of Hartford, CT; Joseph Kelly of Bristol, CT; as well as several grand nieces and a grand nephew.
