Swanton ~ Patrick Henri Luneau passed away peacefully at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on September 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Pat waited to take his last breath until his wife of 63 years was in the room with their children.
Pat was born at home in Georgia, Vermont on May 1, 1938, to the late Wilbrod and Albertine (Godbout) Luneau. He attended Holy Angels School leaving at the end of eighth grade to work on the family farm that was now in St. Albans. He was a younger brother to his sister Aline and an older brother to his brothers Andre and Roland "Chicoque".
On June 17, 1961, Pat married the love of his life Judith Eloise Moore at Holy Angels Church with a garden reception to follow. Pat and Judy would endure the sorrow of losing their first two infants at birth, Mary Carolyn and Shaun Anthony. In 1963, they purchased their forever home on a hilly working dairy farm in the town of Swanton on Sweet Hollow Road. Patrick was a farmer, dairy feed salesman, and in the National Guard. He eventually gave up milking cows and resigned from the National Guard to focus on his family and his sales career. Sweet Hollow Road is where they would raise their four children: Shaun Patrick, Mathew James, Sara Jane and Eric Daniel. Pat wanted to raise his children in the country and thus was always willing to transport them and their friends to sporting practices and any after-school events. Pat and Judy would drive to the away games to cheer, offer support and console losses for their children and friends.
Pat was a dairy feed salesperson throughout his life. He forged strong relationships with local farmers over coffee and conversations, leading to his award-winning sales career. He was proud of having completed The Dale Carnegie Course and the Purina Agri-Business Institute Advanced Sales School. He ended his agri-business career with Cargill. At the age of seventy-five he would be seen driving his truck delivering grain to his long-standing customers. He was well known and respected in the Franklin County dairy community as an honest, kind, gentle, hardworking man.
Pat and Judy traveled the world and was always comfortable leaving his children in the care of his extended family. He was also an avid deer hunter and hunting season at the late Gaston Begnoche's camp was a joyful anticipated event as well as their Colorado and Wyoming trips. While his hunting crew would call him a buck magnet it wasn't until last year that he shot a buck on Sweet Hollow. His excitement was on full display as he drove his prized buck to the Elks to show his friends.
Pat was a lifelong active member of St. Albans Lodge #1566 B.P.O.E where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1998-1999 and again 2002-2023. He was an Elks's Bartender, Trustee and a State Officer. Pat spent many hours at the Elk's playing cards, chatting with friends and volunteering for Silver Towers. Pat was a long-time member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion.
Pat was a man of strong integrity, humility, and determination values he instilled in his family. He cherished time with his family, and his animals. Pat became "Grampy" and cheering his grandchildren: Iliana, Marika, Hayzen and Evangelica became one of his biggest joys throughout their development. Being with his grandchildren always made his smile brighter. Having his family next door to him on Sweet Hollow Road provided him comfort and love as he kept a watchful eye on their properties. He enjoyed raising beef with Eric and quiet moments on the pond with Matt. He was blessed to have Shaun as a healthcare provider allowing him to remain strong at home. He looked forward to his weekly overnight visits from Sara.
A man of few words yet he exuded kindness, honesty, wisdom and a fun-loving spirit to anyone that interacted with him. In honor of Pat, the family requests that you visit someone you cherish but don't often see, perhaps bring a donut. Short visits or an old-fashioned letter can mean so much to others.
Pat leaves behind: his beloved wife Judy; his son Shaun, his son Mathew and daughter -in-law Ilze and his granddaughters Iliana, Marika and Evangelica, daughter Sara and her fiancé Mark English, son Eric and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Hunter) Luneau and his grandson Hayzen. His dog Gracie and his grand dogs Rosie, Stella, Reggie and Yogi will miss his treats. He also leaves behind his god children Kristina Moore and Bently Luneau. He also leaves behind: sisters-in-law: Ginny Luneau, Denise Luneau, Joan Moore, Joyce (Moore) Graves, Lynn Moore, Lora Moore and Marguerite (Moore) Gibson, brothers-in-law: Ellsworth Moore, and Carroll Moore as well as many nieces and nephews that he adored
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Aline (Luneau) Perry, Andre (Andy) Luneau, Roland "Chicoque" Luneau., father -in-law Donald Moore, mother -in-law Eloise Tewksbury Moore, brother-in-law Dwayne Moore, sister and brother-in-law, Averil and Arthur Heald, and sister-in-law, Margaret "Bunny" Hall Moore.
Pat was an honorable husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; and although we will miss him dearly, we feel extremely blessed to be a part of his loving life and to have him a part of ours.
Pat's family will receive family and friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

I met Patrick when, as a teenager, I babysat his and Judy's children. He was a true gentleman. He teased me about getting as dirty as his kids when they came home to find me in the sandbox with the kids.
