Patrick O'Beirne Obituary

Patrick Francis O'Beirne Sr., 84, the patriarch of his family, passed away peacefully after a short illness on August 12, 2025, in Albany, New York. Born on May 12, 1941, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, he was a man whose adventurous spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

He spent his first 10 years of life in Nassau County, in the communities of East Williston and Levittown, before moving to Suffolk County in the village of Huntington. Patrick's youth was filled with the joys of playing sports, with a passion for baseball that mirrored his lifelong devotion to the New York Yankees. A graduate of St. Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay, he continued his studies at Siena College, where he majored in Economics.

In 1964, Patrick was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service took him across the globe, from the jungles of Vietnam to the shores of Hawaii, earning him the Bronze Medal and Air Medal for his valor. He left the military with the rank of Captain, a testament to his leadership and courage.

Returning to civilian life, Patrick embarked on a career in production management, first with Norton Abrasives, then with Campbell Plastics, and finally retiring from PPG Auto Glass in Albany.

Known affectionately as GPapa, a nod to his playful claim of being in the "Irish mafia," Patrick's humor and warmth were truly memorable. Family was the center of his life, from cheering on Notre Dame sports alongside his grandsons to visiting family on Long Island and West Virginia to traveling to Ottawa, Canada, to watch his granddaughters compete in bagpiping; he showed up for the people he loved, along with his witty, sarcastic jokes. He was always up for an adventure, especially to the Carolinas.

Patrick's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found enjoyment in coin and stamp collecting, golfing, and reading. His gardens were a source of pride, and his canning and pickling skills were unmatched, leaving a delicious legacy for his family to savor. He was the pillar of his family, as well as his community, serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Thomas Corners Fire Department for many years.

He is survived by his loving children, Patrick O'Beirne (Robin Collyer), Shawn O'Beirne (Michelle Doane), and Kathleen (Daniel) Stuart; his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Camber, Matthew (Freya), Haley, Aidan, and Alanna; and his great-grandchild, Kaiden, and Patrick's significant other, Phyllis Przbylo. His legacy continues through his siblings, James (Deborah) O'Beirne and Claire Sheila Van Vorst, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Patrick was predeceased by his infant son, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Teresa.

Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, on Monday, August 18th, from 5 to 7 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7 PM. Family and friends are welcome to the Glenville Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 19th, at 9:30 AM to drive in procession to Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery for burial and military honors at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital District Youth Pipeband, 904 Beaver Street, Schenectady, New York 12308 and Free to Be Me Rescue, 154 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, New York 12054.
