Obituary of Paul Samuel Haakonson, Sr.
SCHENECTADY –
Paul Samuel Haakonson, Sr., 85, of Schenectady, passed away on February 23, 2024.
He was born on September 23, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa. In 1956, the family moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. Paul was employed by Northwestern Bell from 1956-1965. Paul married Carol Erickson in 1957 and moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. Paul then moved his family to New York where he was a General Agent for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance in Albany. Paul operated a retail store from 1970-1978. He also operated a restaurant type business until his retirement in 2005. Paul was a very active eBay seller for over 22 years.
Paul is survived by his present longtime companion, Rosie Lanaro. His children, Shelly Long, Brenda Sundby, and Paul Haakonson, Jr., all residing in Minnesota and John Soltysiak residing in New York. Paul is also survived by 4 sisters, Elsie Cook (Hank), Lois Isvik (Gerry), Marlys Larsen (Bud) & Judy Rygh (Paul) all of Minnesota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and newphews.
Paul was preceeded in death by his parents, R.P. & Clara Haakonson, son-in-law, Sid Long, and nephews Tim and Mark Rygh. Also, his previous longtime companion, Mary Soltysiak.
Prior to Paul's death, he requested cremation without a service and we will honor those wishes.
