Obituary for Paul Stanley Johnson
September 17, 1943 to January 8, 2025
Paul Stanley Johnson was born to Clair and Lois Johnson in Standardville, Emery, Utah, on Sept. 17, 1943. After WWII, Paul was 2 years old and his parents moved to Spanish Fork, UT. Paul grew up there and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1961. After high school, he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southern Australia Mission from 1962-1964. His mission president was Bruce R. McConkie.
After his mission, he returned to Spanish Fork and enrolled at Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree in Chemical Engineering. During that time, he met and married Sherry Lynne Riches also of Spanish Fork. After graduation he went to work for Shell Oil Company in Martinez, CA and worked at the refinery there for 5 years. In 1974, he was transferred to Houston, TX and continued working for the company for another 30 years.
His wife, Sherry, passed away in 1994 and in 1995 he married Marsha J. Kindred. After they both retired in 2004, they spent the next 20 years taking care of loved ones, serving in the temple, and traveling as often as possible. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life and served in many leadership callings during that time. His favorite by far was serving as a temple worker. Paul had many hobbies including astronomy and remote-control airplanes, but his favorite hobby was playing the guitar and singing. He played at many senior centers throughout Utah Valley and found great joy in sharing his talents. Paul loved gardening and had a flourishing garden for the nearly 30 years he and Marsha have been married. Gardening in Houston requires a lot of determination, but he always managed to grow an abundance of fruits and vegetables. He was dedicated to his health and enjoyed walking and exercising regularly. He was an example to all in his pursuit of abundant health, continuous learning and being of service to others.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Johnson; son Joseph (Michelle) Johnson; daughters Cindy Johnston and Trey (Veronica Triplett) Johnson; and stepson Paul (Kim) Kindred; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry Riches; his twin sons, Edward and Eric Johnson; his parents, Clair and Lois Johnson; his grand parents and many beloved aunts and uncles.
