Paul Donald Johnston, known as Don, was born on March 25, 1939, in Labette County, Kansas, and he passed away on March 19, 2025, in Cherryvale, Kansas. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Don graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, Kansas, as a member of the Class of 1957. He embarked on a successful career at M&M Moulders in Cherryvale.
On April 12, 1958, Don married the love of his life, Mary Sue Kolb, in a ceremony at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons, Kansas. Together they built a beautiful life in Cherryvale.
He is survived by his wife Sue of the home, son, Steve (Lisa) Johnston of Cherryvale, Kansas, grandson, Joseph (Amy) Johnston of Thayer, Kansas, great-grandchildren Gus, Ivy, Kati, and Jay into the family, who were a source of immense pride and happiness for him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Omer and Mary Olive (Pontious) Johnston and son, Bruce Johnston and by his beloved sisters, Dorothy Treiber, Catherine Johnston, Marjorie Burzinski, Rita Horton, Mary Jo Robinson, Patricia Nelson, Olive Haight, and Migon Yates, as well as his brothers, John "Bud" Johnston Jr. and William "Bill" Johnston.
Don had a passion for car sales, a hobby that brought him much enjoyment over the years. His enthusiasm for life and connection with those around him will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service to honor Don's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Fairview Cemetery located on North Olive Street in Cherryvale, Kansas, where family and friends will gather to pay their respects.
As we remember Don, we celebrate a life well-lived, a spirit that touched many, and a legacy of love and devotion to family. His memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of those who knew him.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Cherryvale Food Bank, and can be mailed or left at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
