Paul Malcolm Marsh, husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed scientist, passed away on August 1, 2024 at the age of 87. Born in Fresno, California, Paul dedicated his life to serving God. He earned his PhD in entomology from the University of California, Davis, specializing in biological pest control, a pioneering field at the time. His career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture spanned over 30 years, where he was based at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Paul's research focused on the identification and classification of parasitic wasps, and he traveled globally, from Europe to Egypt, Latin America, China, and beyond.
Paul married Jennie Lois Suderman on May 15, 1965. They have two children, Jon Nathan Marsh (married to Sabrina Marsh) and Kellie Marsh Holoski (married to Dan Holoski), and were blessed with four grandchildren: Aubrey Claire Holoski, Bennett Asher Holoski, Eva Darling Marsh, and Pepper Lynne Marsh. Paul's legacy extends to his work, where he named parasitic wasps after his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren, reflecting his deep affection for his family.
A man of profound Christian faith, Paul was known for his unwavering positivity, patience, and selflessness. He loved brass music and singing in men's choirs. He was fondly remembered by his grandchildren as "Grandpa" or "Poppop" and for the adventures in their traveling camper-van.
Paul is remembered as a devoted family man and a distinguished scientist whose contributions to entomology have left a lasting impact. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
