Paul Morrill Obituary
Paul E. Morrill of Hyde Park, MA and Lighthouse Point, FL, passed away on December 6, 2024 at his Florida residence. Paul's journey of 81 years was marked by his generous spirit, loving heart and steadfast ambition. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Cossaboom) Morrill, with whom he happily shared his life for 56 years. He was the devoted and loving father of Jeff Morrill and his wife Cathy of Hyde Park, P.J. Morrill and his wife Donna of Norfolk, and Denise Romano and her husband Kevin of Hyde Park, and the proud grandfather of Lauren Brittan and her husband Matthew, Harry Morrill, Kayla Morrill, Katie Morrill, Becca Morrill, Liam Romano, Ben Romano and Meghan Romano. Last year, he was blessed with the birth of his great-granddaughter, Addie Brittan.
Born in Natick on July 23, 1943, Paul was one of nine children and the eldest son of the late Percy and Mary Morrill. His strong work ethic was evident from the young age of twelve, when he began working multiple jobs before and after school to help contribute to his family. He graduated from Natick High School in 1962 and subsequently obtained a degree in business management from Newbury Junior College. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country, stationed on the USS Guam as a Navy Diver.
Paul was a hard worker driven by an unwavering determination to support his family and achieve the goals he set for himself. He began his career in the family business, managing Davey's Market in Roxbury, and from there moved on to the taxi business. He leased and drove taxi until he acquired his own medallion, which eventually led to a fleet. He joined the Independent Taxi Operators Association in 1985 and held the position of Treasurer for 17 years.
In 1995, he joined the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts as a Right of Descent Member and served as Captain Commanding in 2005-2006. During his time with the Company, he made lasting friendships and traveled the world. As Captain Commanding, he proudly led the Company on a Fall Field Day Tour of Duty to Zambia and Cape Town, South Africa as well as a trip to Rome, Italy to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Pontifical Swiss Guard. In addition to the Ancients, Paul was an active member of many clubs and organizations including Knights of Columbus, South Boston Yacht Club, Kiwanis Club of Boston, 100 Club of Massachusetts, American Legion, and the Order of Malta.
He enthusiastically embraced his role as Papa to his eight grandchildren. He happily chauffeured them wherever they needed to go, attended their sporting events, and kept tabs on their schoolwork and other comings and goings with daily early morning phone calls. They were truly his pride and joy.
Paul was a man who loved being on the ocean, whether scuba diving, boating or deep-sea fishing. An avid fisherman, he loved nothing more than fishing trips on the "Sweet Emily" in Pompano Beach and sharing his catch that night with his many fishing buddies. Florida was his happy place, and he enjoyed one final and successful fishing trip this week, catching mutton snapper.
He will be deeply missed, but his memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Paul is survived by his siblings, Mary Beaupre and her husband Glenn of Thornton, NH, Kathy DiBenedetto of Orlando, FL, Janet Boudreau and her husband Rick of Dennis, Pat Freeman and her husband Ron of Republic, MO, Peggy Bigelow of Natick, Jim Morrill and his wife Kelsa of Canton, and Helen Morrill of Hopedale. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Edie Frigulietti of Norwood, his nephew, Andy Frigulietti of Boston, and his niece, Amy Frigulietti and her fiancé Guy Glodis of Yarmouth, as well as many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Betsy Donahue, formerly of Natick.
