Paul Francis Shambo

Paul Francis Shambo, 78, died on February 18 at home, surrounded by his family in Penfield, NY. After a long year of fighting, Paul lost his battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer and passed peacefully in his sleep.

Paul was born on July 23, 1946 in Windsor, Vermont to Mildred and Alfred Shambo. He lived at home with his family, including brothers Ted and Peter, until attending the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1964. It was there that he met his future wife, Barbara Sadler. They both graduated in 1968, were married, and moved to Rochester, NY where Paul had accepted a position in Sales and Marketing with Eastman Kodak.

In 1974 they built a home in Honeoye Falls. Paul’s son Scott and daughter Kim arrived soon thereafter. The apple trees on the property were brought back to health, providing bushels of apples for cider-making, and Applewood Farm was born. Paul spent six years restoring a 110 year old barn on the property, which ultimately housed the family’s horses when the children were older. He was a very doting and supportive father, traveling with the kids and horses to competitions around the Northeast. He designed and built riding rings, dressage rings and horse jumps to help build the kid’s confidence during their formative years allowing them to train the horses at home.

Paul, his children and grandchildren loved spending time at their cottage in the Thousand Islands on the St Lawrence Seaway, aka “The River”. They loved taking long boat rides and spending afternoons at The Cove.

Paul is predeceased by his mother, father and older brother, Theodore. He is survived by his brother, Peter Shambo, his children, Scott Shambo (Aly), Kimberly McNaughton (John) and his 7 grandchildren – Morgen, McKenna, Natalie, Noah, Audrey, Griffin and Ruby, along with his many nieces, nephews, beloved friends and his long-time partner, Elizabeth Driscoll.

A funeral mass and reception will be held at St. Catherine of Siena church in Mendon, NY on March 1st at 11am. A link for the live stream of this service can be found on the church’s website a few days in advance. A private celebration of life will be held this summer in the Thousand Islands.
