Brother Paul Thompkins was born on May 4, 1934 in Albany, Georgia to Lucious Thompkins, Sr., and Janie Lee Witcher. He gained his heavenly wings on November 26, 2021 in Tampa, Florida at the blessed age of 87. Brother Paul was a true servant of the Lord Jesus Christ who believed in the power of the Holy Ghost and prayer, and would often be found thanking God for his salvation and quoting John 7:38 saying, "[believe] on me as the Scripture hath said." Brother Paul was especially known for his caring and generous heart. He had a humble, loving personality that drew you in and captivated you. As a man who loved the Lord, you would always catch him encouraging, uplifting, and speaking life into his family and loved ones.
Brother Paul was known for his mild candor and his ability to make you laugh in and at the most unsuspecting situations. He would always manage to find some way to compliment you before the conversion was over by saying something like, "You sure know how to put on clothes" or "You sure are a good cook." He had many phrases of endearment that will be carried in the hearts of his loved ones, such as, "Sweetest thing on this Earth" or "I wouldn't take a billion dollars for you." Brother Paul certainly knew what it meant to have rivers of living water flowing from inside himself. He was the embodiment of a godly man.
Brother Paul, affectionately known as Uncle Paul, loved his family and friends. He would travel the world to spend time with his loved ones, often times driving up and down the east coast in his trusty tan-colored Toyota Camry. He was even fortunate enough to have traveled to and spent time in India. And whenever he would come home to visit New Jersey, he would always get food from his favorite soul food restaurant, D & J Country Cooking in Newark, and his favorite bakery, Pinho's Bakery in Roselle. In addition to loving travel and food, Uncle Paul loved his country. He served in the army and was given an honorable discharge, after which he began to work for the local post office. Brother Paul remained a faithful worker at the post office until his retirement. He was also a long time resident of both Hillside, New Jersey and Tampa, Florida.
Uncle Paul loved children. He spent much of his life aiding children in his family and in his community. And he loved his Lucille and said that he would marry her once he moved back to New Jersey. However, he transitioned into glory before actualizing that dream.
Brother Paul Thompkins was one of 9 siblings and was preceded in death by his parents, Lucious Thompkins Sr., Janie Lee Witcher, his siblings, Lucious Thompkins, Samuel Thompkins, Melvin Thompkins, Marion Thompkins, Sarah Thompkins, Isaiah Thompkins, Mary Giles, and Dorothy Reese. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved son, Julian Lambert (Diane), his sister, Dora Thompkins, three devoted nephews, David Helper (Jacque), Xavier Helper (Naomi), and William Coley (Brenda), and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, and loved ones.
