Paula Sue Hammack Swearingen, 78 years old, was called to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She entered this world on June 9, 1947, born to Hilda and Reverend Robert Hammack, Sr., in Baton Rouge, LA.
Paula lived a life full of faith, love, and joy. For more than 20 years she served as a school bus driver for East Baton Rouge Parish, and she devoted much of her life to teaching Sunday school, faithfully sharing her love of Jesus with others. She was also a two-time breast cancer survivor, a true testament to her courage and determination. Paula was a devoted family member, a reliable friend, and someone who made everyone around her feel safe, comfortable, and loved. To know her was truly to love her.
Her passions reflected her big heart. She adored her "fur babies" and even ran her own kennel so she could share that joy with others. She loved "junking" at garage sales, making floral arrangements and crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren, who were her greatest treasures. Paula had a firecracker personality - full of fun, laughter, and love - and she left behind countless memories that will be cherished forever. In the end, one thing is certain: Everyone needs an Aunt Paula.
Paula is survived by her loving husband, Richard V. Swearingen; daughter, Jodi Swearingen Fussell (husband Michael); four grandchildren; Garrett Ramsay, Spencer Ramsay, Alexis Fussell and Gracie Fussell; three sisters, Sharon Walls (husband AJ), Cynthia Lott, and Judy Hammack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Robert Joe Hammack and Hilda Rae Cupit Hammack, daughter, Vicki Ramsay; and brother, Robert "Joe" Hammack, Jr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Walls, Kelly Walls, Anthony Walls, Garrett Ramsay, Spencer Ramsay, and Ethan Ballard.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, officiated by Reverend Nick Hagger. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
