POLAND - Pauline Rose Ciavarella, 99, died peacefully Friday November 14th at Shepherd of the Valley.
Born on September 27, 1926, in Hermansville, MI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Hlay and Silvia Radencic Hlay.
Pauline was a graduate of East High School and went on to study at Youngstown Hospital's School of Nursing where she received her RN in 1948. ^ Her nursing career spanned 4 decades with positions of increasing responsibility at Southside Hospital before she retired in 1989.
Pauline was married to the love of her life, Joseph Ciavarella, for over 61 years, beginning their journey together on May 29, 1948, until his passing on October 30, 2009. She is remembered for her unwavering strength and dedication not only to her family but also to her profession, where she touched the lives of many through her care and commitment.
In addition to her nursing career, Pauline cherished spending time with her family and friends. She found great joy in playing cards, particularly Bridge, a game that brought her much happiness and connection throughout her life. Pauline and Joe were Charter Members of Holy Family Church where she was very active and a member of the Knights of Columbus Womans Organization. She was also an active member of the Friends of the Library and Retired Nurses Association. Pauline was an avid sports fan and supported the Cleveland Teams, YSU and Notre Dame.
Pauline is survived by her four sons: Robert (Deborah) Ciavarella of San Marcos, CA, Thomas (Annie) Ciavarella of Poland, Gary (Patsy) Ciavarella of Boardman, and Paul (Kimberly) Ciavarella of Poland; four grandchildren, Daniel (Casey Jo) Ciavarella, Timothy Ciavarella (Amanda Papp), Nikki Ciavarellaand Christopher Ciavarella; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Reid, Amelia and Violet; and three step-grandchildren, Kenneth, Joe and Mike Posey.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Anthony Ciavarella; and siblings, Mary Maule, Joseph Hlay, and Katy Schnell.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 am Tuesday November 18th at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. A Nightingale Service with the Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio will be held at 10:20 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the prayers at 11 am at Holy Family Church on Tuesday.
