Mrs. Peggy Jeanette Mitchell Bulla, 95, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Heritage Place Senior Living, Fayetteville, NC.
Peggy was born July 11, 1928, in Nash County, NC, to the late Loman Monroe Mitchell and Alene Britt Mitchell. Peggy graduated from Asheboro High School and Meredith College. After majoring in education, she taught history and language arts at Stedman Jr. High School for many years. A true teacher at heart, it brought her great joy to teach her middle school students, peers at Sunday School, and children at her church. In addition, she thrived on teaching adult literacy after she retired from the school system.
She held leadership positions within her beloved church community, Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, for many years. The simple pleasures in life brought joy to Peggy. She loved to create delicious meals and loved even more enjoying them around the table with her many friends and family. She loved the annual family beach vacations and the many girl's weekends with her daughters and granddaughters. She was always up for a "ride" to just about anywhere and it was usually her idea to "go." Thanksgiving Day was the most special day of the year and she always helped create a day to remember. She welcomed everyone with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh.
She could not have been more proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She demonstrated unconditional love, generosity, humor and optimism in all circumstances. Peggy wanted to be remembered for her legacy of love-love for her family, friends, church, life, and most of all, her love of God.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thomas Bulla Sr. and grandson, Justin McDonald. Peggy is survived by her children, Barbara Crawley McDonald (Charles), Elizabeth Bulla Brown (Ray), Joseph "Tom" Bulla Jr. (Dawn), and Martha Bulla Massey (John); grandchildren, Raven Riggio (Michael), Morgan Williams (Gareth), Nicholas Brown, Austin Brown, Nicole Brown, Joseph Bulla, III, Anna Bulla, Mitchell Massey, and Addison Massey; and great-grandchildren, Steffan, Charlotte, Jake, and Mack.
The family would like to thank her former student, Kim Starling, for the care, love, and friendship she gave Peggy during the last years of her life. We would also like to thank the special angels who provided care for her at Heritage Place on the Assisted Living floor.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:50 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 3997 Sunnyside School Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28312 with a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the Bulla Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Fayetteville Urban Ministry or Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
