Peggy Ann Stephens, age 81, a resident of Goshen, AL, passed away November 21, 2025 peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services for Ms. Stephens will be held Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 2 pm at Antioch Church of Christ with Pastor John Dickerson officiating and Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1-2pm at Antioch Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Tommy Stephens. Mother, Sarah Lauderdale; Father, Wyatt Lauderdale; brothers Lindy and Nick Lauderdale; and sister Deborah Jean Lauderdale.
Left to try and navigate life without her:
Brother: Teddy Lauderdale; Children: Beverly (Ken) Faircloth, Johnny Stephens, Carol Meeks (Frankie Barbarow); Grandchildren: Joanna (David) Johnston, Audrey (Doug) Price, Chip Faircloth (Abby McCombs), JJ Stephens, Matt (Hannah) Stephens, Gauge Ballard, Taylor (Stephanie) Ballard, Sydney Ballard, and Stephen Meeks (Lexie McLendon); Great Grandchildren: Olivia Johnston, Dean Johnston, River Johnston, Zavier Johnston, Liam Ballard, Talan Baxley, Kellan Whitehead-Ballard, and Alexis Wright; Brother and Sister In Law: Doug (Sara) Stephens, Mike (Patricia) Stephens, Pat (Gene) White, Wanda (Jim) Adams, Bonnie Stephens Griffin and Peggy (Patrick) Nonnemann; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: JJ Stephens, Gauge Ballard, Taylor Ballard, Chip Faircloth, Matt Stephens and Stephen Meeks
When Tommy and Peggy decided to put roots down in Pike County, Peggy decided the love she had in her heart she had to share, and that she did. She went to work taking care of children at Tender Care Nursery for Janice Castleberry. When that daycare closed, she went on to The Gingerbread House (Barbara Nunnelee). She also worked for Kim Sanderlin at that daycare, and it was when that daycare closed Donald and Ann Kelly decided to build a daycare so that Peggy could continue keeping (Chance Kelly, Wendi Williamson and Wesley Grant). She spent most of her life taking care of the children of Pike County and she loved every minute of it. Her children would joke that she had more photo albums of children we didn't know than of her own. Peggy would leave the childcare business and go on to work for ALDOT where she started as a janitor. She would advance herself by studying and getting her GED to start doing secretarial work at the Highway department where she would go on to retire in 2007. After retirement Peggy would spend lots of days doing what she loved, fishing on the Tallapoosa River. Peggy loved fishing there's no doubt about that, but the thing Peggy loved more than anything was her relationship with Our Lord and Savior and reading her Bible. Last count was 37 times reading it completely.
Peggy spent all her life caring for others and is loved by so many! She was most concerned about her family and their acceptance of Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Her last words were, "TELL EVERYONE I LOVE THEM AND I WILL SEE THEM IN HEAVEN."
