Wilson Eugene Stephens

Wilson Eugene "Gene" Stephens age 82, passed away Friday, November 21, 2025 in Shawnee, OK. He was borned September 21, 1943 in Salem, Illinois to Lyle Roland Stephens and Erma Ilene (Guymon) Stephens.
Moved to Lindsay, OK in 1948, and attended 12 years of school in the Lindsay School System. Atteneded East Central University in 1961. While in college, Gene was a member of the varsity basketball team for 2 years and the varsity baseball team for 4 years. He was also a junior founder of the Pikappa Alpha fraternity at East Central. He received his BA degree and masters degree from East Central and his principal certification from the University of Oklahoma.
Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, spending time in El Paso, Texas, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Gelhausen, Germany.
He began teaching in 1969 in the Wewoka School System, retiring in 1996. Gene worked as a social studies teacher, athletic coach, and served 21 years as the high school assistant principal.
Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oklahoma State Coaches Association, The V.F.W. & American Legion, Wewoka Golf Association, The Post 1311 Wewoka, Wewoka Golf Course, The Wewoka Country Club, Wewoka Basketball Association, The Wewoka Quarterback Association, also was the public address announcer for the high school and middle school football games.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Gene leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Troy R. Stephens and wife Cathy Stephens of Whitney, Texas; one daughter, Tracy Ray Posner of Nassau, Bahamas; one sister, Joyce K. (Stephens) Winfield of Oklahoma City, OK; grandsons, Nicholas Drew Posner of Nassau, Bahamas, Brent Snider and wife Megan of Tulsa, OK and Jordan Blankenship and wife Leslie of McAlester, OK; great grandchildren, Nolan, Irelyn, Mase, along with numerous of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
