Perry Galen Schrock, 98, went to be with his Lord Monday, September 22, 2025. He was born at home in
Albany, Oregon on August 8, 1927, the second child of Elmer and Bertha (Heyerly) Schrock. He lived all his life in the Albany/Lebanon area, working as a farm hand, Nofziger Feed & Seed bookkeeper, Commodore Corporation yard supervisor, and rural route mail
carrier.
Perry attended Albany High School, graduating in 1945. In December of that year, he joined his brother, Eldon, serving in CPS (Civilian Public Service) at Glacier National Park and later at the Roseburg Veterans Hospital in the psychiatric ward, just as World War II was ending. On June 26, 1949, Perry married Sophia Ardell Miller. They were raising six children on September 14, 1959 when Sophia became ill and died suddenly. Perry's cousin, Katherine Heyerly, moved in to help with the children until June 11, 1960, when he married Audrey (Kenagy) Bender, who brought with her three children. In 1968, they were blessed with their tenth child.
Throughout his life, Perry was a follower of Jesus and an active member of Fairview and Plainview Mennonite Churches, where he taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, led singing and directed choruses, and served as treasurer and elder. He and Audrey also enjoyed volunteering for several short term assignments at the MCC Self Help (TenThousand Villages) warehouse in Akron, PA. Their lives were enriched by the many friends they made along the way.
Perry played recreational softball and basketball in his younger years, and enjoyed following the OSU Beavers and the Western Mennonite Pioneers, making many trips to Pendleton for the state AA playoffs. He also collected stamps, hunted deer, tended a garden, and played table games.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bertha Schrock; wives Sophia and Audrey; brother, Eldon; sisters, Dora (Willems) and Florence (Gerig); son, Carl Bender; two sons-in-law, Lowell Stutzman and Bill Vandiver; and great granddaughter, Evangeline Johnson. He is survived by nine children; daughters, Kathleen Vandiver, Patricia Stutzman, Myrna (Gary) Kroese, Sylvia (Myron) Shenk, Lavonne (Steve) Hersherger, Carolyn (Kevin) Rediger; sons, Raymond (Renae Kauffman) Schrock, Stanley (Rita Evers) Schrock, and Allen Schrock; 30 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.
The family is grateful for friends who visited and for those who lovingly cared for him during the final months of his life: Katie and Brody Gerig, Angie and Matthew Gray, and the amazing staff at Mennonite Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Fairview Mennonite Church.
