Peter M. Boranian, 89, passed away February 7, 2025. He was born in Providence, the son of Melkon and Hripsime (Sooltanian) Boranian. Beloved brother to Anna Parascandolo and the late Mary Goshgarian. Devoted husband of 67 years to the late Alice (Micielli) Boranian. A Loving father to Charles (Gail), Kenneth (Wendy), Paul (Lily) and Peter (Angela); grandfather to Nicole (Bobby), Kenneth (Julie), Desiree, and Anna; “bonus” grandchildren Charlie, Jill, Gabriel, and Aidan; and great-grandchildren Bobby and Aston. His dear nieces, nephews and in-laws also helped to fill his life with joy.

Peter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and served four years in active duty during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Sergeant with the Military Police, receiving commendations and awards. He was recommended for flight school, passing simulator training, but opted instead to be by his aging parents’ side. He joined the Providence Police Department in 1958 finishing first place in his class. His close friend, PPD Commander Ted Collins called him “highly intelligent, non-confrontational.” Peter attended Providence College on the GI Bill while simultaneously working as a police officer and raising his family. He transitioned to a career in education in Providence schools, first as a teacher at Roger Williams Middle School and later as a guidance counselor at Central Vocational School. He loved his students and many have expressed how they love him. He was highly revered and admired by his co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Extremely proud of his Armenian heritage, he served on the board of trustees at Saints Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church in Providence and took great pride in his service, the activities and the relationships with his fellow Armenians. A passionate gardener, he took great pleasure enjoying and sharing his vegetable harvest every year. As a lifelong N.Y. Yankees fan, he spent many years coaching and umpiring young players. He was often tough on the outside, but it was evident to those lucky enough to be a part of his life that he had a loving and caring heart. As he fought through his final battle he summoned the strength to tell all his visitors “ALL MY SONS ARE HERE” which was clearly his greatest accomplishment. Dad, we will always remember you with love and admiration. You are our inspiration and our hero.

Family and friends are invited to visitation Saturday February 15th from 10:00-11:00 and a funeral service at 11:00 at Saints Vartanantz Armenian Church 402 Broadway, Providence. Burial with military honors will be at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnston. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saints Vartanantz Church Mourad Armenian School.
