It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Peter Andrew Duran, who left us on 12/13/2024 at his home on Grosse Ile, MI. He was born on September 21, 1941 in Detroit, MI to Nicasio and Mary Duran. He was the 3rd born and final surviving of four siblings. He attended primary school at St. Annes and graduated high school in 1960 from Holy Redeemer, where he was the manager of the basketball team that won the State championship. Following high school, Peter enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He served three years as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division completing 26 jumps. Peter worked as a pattern maker at Ford Motor Company for a short time after his military service. Then he had a long and successful career as a carbide tooling engineer in sales with Kennemetal.
Peter had many interests in life, outside of work, with charity being his primary passion. As a 50/50 Captain with the Knights of Columbus he was able to help many people in need with various projects including building handicap wheelchair ramps. Peter had a special talent for leading events throughout his life. He spearheaded numerous golf, boating, and bowling outings supporting various charities. For many years Peter bowled at Fort Park Lanes with his brothers, Nick and Paul, as well as his brother-in-law, Bob Bjerk and Dennis Slusarz. He was an avid boater on the Great Lakes and was the proud Commodore of his boat club in 2010.
Peter was passionate and proud of his Spanish heritage. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling back to his father's hometown in Spain where he first visited as a child. As a husband, Pete was the most caring, adventurous, interesting, intelligent, and romantic partner a woman could wish for. Life with him was a real joy. He was kind, sensitive, honest in thought and deed, discerning and funny. He was always open to new adventures. We had so many wonderful and fun years together.
Peter will be missed.
