He passed away on October 29, 2025, in Middletown, New York, after a courageous battle with prostate and bone cancer.
Peter's early life in Brooklyn was the foundation upon which he built his character and work ethic. He was a proud graduate of John Jay High School and furthered his education at Brooklyn College CUNY. His thirst for knowledge led him to Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he honed his skills that would later become an integral part of his career.
In 1968, Peter began his service to our nation as a member of the US Marine Corps 1st Battalion 8th Marines, a time during which he exemplified bravery and a commitment to his fellow Marines. After his honorable discharge in 1971, he embarked on a career with Verizon, where he served loyally for 40 years. As a proud Shop Steward and Member of the Telecommunication Workers of America Local 1101, Peter was a steadfast advocate for his colleagues, ensuring their voices were heard and their rights upheld.
Peter's personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Carmen, and a loving brother to Elizabeth, John, and Anthony. His children-Barbara, Peter III, Jerry, and Jennifer-were the apples of his eye, and he reveled in their accomplishments. The joy of his life extended to his grandchildren, Theodora, Jerry, Rebecca, Michael, Roman, Andrea, Peter, and Mia, whom he cherished with every fiber of his being.
A man of faith, Peter's Christian beliefs guided him through life's trials and triumphs. He was a pillar in his community, often leading by example and offering support to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his selfless nature was a beacon of hope to many.
Peter's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching boxing, MMA, and judo, and could often be found cheering on his favorite athletes. Game shows were a particular delight, providing him with endless entertainment and laughter. Above all, Peter's greatest pleasure came from supporting his children's accomplishments and spending quality time with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Described by those who knew him as loving, generous, and selfless, Peter Figueroa Jr. leaves behind a legacy that will be honored for generations to come.
