Peter Kevilus Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on August 12, 1943, at Ovitz Castaldo Hospital in Laona, Wisconsin, to Peter and Antoinette Kevilus, Peter lived a life marked by love, dedication, and hard work. He devoted his life to his family and the forests of Wisconsin, working in the woods alongside his sons right up until shortly before his passing.
In 1965, Peter met the love of his life, Sally Jameson. On their very first date, he told her he was going to marry her - and he did just that on February 12, 1966. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage together.
Peter proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967. His love for his country and his time in service remained a point of pride throughout his life. After returning to Laona, he built a life rooted in the work he loved - logging, driving pulp trucks, and building roads for the USDA Forest Service. He perfected his bulldozing skills under the guidance of his father-in-law, Trulen, becoming well-known in the community for his craftsmanship and work ethic. With the help of his son, Peter Jr., who assisted him in getting him into the machinery, he continued working in the woods up to his final days. His determination to keep doing the work he loved, even in his later years, was a testament to his strength and devotion.
Peter also started a firewood business early on, convinced that nothing beat wood heat. As his family grew, his children became his crew - sometimes willing, sometimes not - but always working together. His efforts in logging and firewood, especially with his sons, earned him recognition in Timber Producers, who, the editor honored him with the name "Forest County Firewood King."
In his later years, Peter enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - playing Yahtzee and Smear with his children and grandchildren, always looking forward to those weekly gatherings. He found great joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors with his loved ones.
Peter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He always made sure that whomever he came into contact with would remember him when he came back.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sally; his children, Nora, Peter, Bruce (Kelly), Scott, and Kenneth (Kim); seven grandchildren - Zack, Jake, Jessica, Greg, BJ, Brittany, and Kayla; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Antoinette ("Anty"); sisters Faith and Darlene; his beloved daughter-in-law, Donna; and great-grandchild, Alex.
A visitation will be held at Weber-Hill & Packard Funeral Home on Friday, April 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Father John Cerkas.
