Peter Nathaniel Kuhn, 28, son of Gretchen Cady Kuhn and Steven Michael Kuhn, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2022, in Springfield, MO. He was born on November 19, 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio at University Hospitals. Everyone feels like this about their children, but Peter was the answer to much prayer by many friends and a gift from God. On May 10, 1994, Pastor Alistair Begg of Parkside Church blessed Peter as his parents dedicated him to the Lord.
As he grew, he showed compassion for others, including a special love for animals so at one time he thought he might become a veterinarian. He loved all the pets he had in his lifetime and was always seen lying on the floor with one of them. His most recent was a Maya, a cat adopted from a neighbor s cat s litter.
Peter taught himself to ride a bike before he was three years old. He was enthusiastic about laser tag and paint ball in Elementary and Middle School. He won a Navy award at a city-wide science fair. He attended Hickory Hills Elementary and Middle School followed by Central High School where he especially enjoyed his drama classes. After his junior year, he received his GED with high marks. Peter was very smart, gaining detailed knowledge over the internet about things that interested him. He could fix computers and was a fan of science fiction and detective novels. Peter loved listening to music, especially Ramshakle Glory or Days N Daze, Pink Floyd, and System of a Down. Oliver Tree was one of his favorite music artists and he liked the name so much that he gave the name to his son, Oliver.
Peter was very sweet and loving (his love language was hugs). He had a great sense of humor, was quick to smile, and lit up the room when he came in. On one of his birthdays, his mom made a tall three-layer German Chocolate Cake and he let his brother Ian cut it. Peter never let anyone forget that Ian cut all the way down the middle, causing it to fall in two.
There are wonderful memories from many vacations. His grandmother treated his family to a week sailing in the BVI on a charter boat captained by Peter s uncle and aunt - Michael and Lori. He dropped his Gameboy in the sea and let out a wail from his mouth, opened big and wide, until Lori dove in and recovered it from thirty feet below. It is a funny memory along with those of good times shared at Hatteras, Orlando, Hilton Head, Albuquerque, Williamsburg, and Colorado often with other parts of the family and just at home.
Peter was always at his best when working, most recently in a kitchen where his co-workers appreciated his beautiful plating which they told him they were proud to serve. He worked at a pet store for several years but soon found he liked kitchen work and cooking. Peter s manager said he was always kind and helpful, concerned for others, and did an amazing job at work. He said people loved working with him.
The most important thing is Peter was a believer and chose to be baptized at the Evangelical Free Church in Springfield when he was in third grade. Still at a tender age, he showed concern for other s faith and shared his with them.
What little comfort we can find now is knowing he is out of pain, no longer struggling, in God s presence, no more trials or troubles, and no more weeping. For we walk by faith, not by sight. In fact, we are confident, and we would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord 2 Cor 5:7-8 CSB). He is now whole and healed, sharing in the triumph of God s glory, His crown, His joy, His paradise. We wait to see him again in eternity.
Left behind to mourn the loss are his fianc Jillian Tesla Harp, and his son Oliver Raymond Kuhn, his pride and joy. He is the second son of Steven M. Kuhn and Gretchen (Cady) Kuhn. He is also survived by his brother Ian M. Kuhn, Springfield; half-brother and sister Matt Kuhn (Carol) and Bre an Kuhn Kedzierski (John), Willamsburg, VA; his grandmother, Elizabeth Cady-Jones of Yellow Springs, Ohio; his uncle Jim Kuhn (Novi) of Tijeras, NM; his uncle Michael Cady (Lori) of Port Townsend, WA; his uncle Bryan Cady, Yellow Springs, OH, his step-grandmother, Julia Cady (though Uncle Branson says there are no steps in families his step-uncles Branson Pyles, Jonathan Pyles (Jen), of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Stuart Pyles of St. Pete, Florida, and Nathan Pyles (Janet) of Lake Mills, WI, one niece and four nephews.
His grandparents, Raymond and Betty Kuhn, and his grandfather Duane W. Cady, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 2-4 pm at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home. A memorial celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
