Pawtucket – Peter J. McManus, 71, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Born in Woonsocket, he was the late son of the late James Francis (U.S. Army veteran, WWII) and Angelina E. (Lucchesi) McManus.
Peter is a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and went on to a career with the Fraternal Order of Police for many years until his retirement. He was a longtime member and past commander of the American Legion. Peter was also a member of the Police Athletic League (PAL), and he coached youth soccer for many years. In his youth, Peter served as an altar boy at the former Sacred Heart Parish in Pawtucket, and he enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and historic paper currency.
Above all, Peter was devoted to his family and friends. He was generous, almost to a fault, and would go out of his way to help a family member or friend who needed anything. His memory will be cherished for generations to come, and he will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he has touched over the past seventy-one years.
Peter leaves behind his former wife Stella Czerewko of Saginaw, MI; three children, Andrea R. Mason (U.S. Army veteran) and her husband, Danny, of Clinton Township, MI, Peter J. W. McManus and his wife, Bea, of Saginaw, MI, and Shana A. Ortiz of North Kingstown; twelve grandchildren, Mason, Kirston, Joshua, Joseph, Michael, Evan (Noemi), Angelina, Margaret, Peter Julian, Isabella, Emma, and Apollo, three of whom currently serve (one USMC and two U.S. Army), and a great-grandson, Diego; two sisters, Katherine Terrien and her husband, Larry, of Pawtucket, and Elizabeth "Dodie" Mathurin and her husband, Roger (USCG Ret.) of Wareham, MA, and his goddaughter, Melissa Brown of Warwick, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas "Tommy" McManus (U.S. Army veteran).
SERVICES with Military Honors will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. VISITATION will be on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 would be appreciated. TRIPPFUNERALHOME.com
