Peter John McMenamin (February 13, 1959 - October 17, 2024)
Peter John McMenamin, 65, passed away on October 17, 2024, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born on February 13, 1959, in New York City, Peters life was defined by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, a love of adventure, and a deep devotion to his family, particularly his beloved children, Leith Maria of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Hugo of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Peter is also survived by his sisters, Brigid, Margaret, Catherine, and Anna Regina. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh A. and Elizabeth McMenamin, and his brother, Stephen M. McMenamin.
Peter grew up in Jackson, New Jersey, and graduated from St. Johns College in Santa Fe, earning a degree in the Great Books Program. As a Roman Catholic, his pursuit of knowledge led him to the philosophical teachings of St. Augustine, driving his search for truth and deeper understanding. Peter spent much of his adult life in Annapolis, Maryland, where he found joy in sailing, cooking, and raising his children. Peter was a master mechanic and a consummate sailor who could navigate by the stars. He enjoyed martial arts and engaging in profound conversations. His wanderlust led him to travel extensively, exploring out of the way places, experiences, and the wonders of the natural world. In 2015, Peter was honored to serve as the Chief of Staff of the Union County (NJ) Saint Patricks Day Parade. In 2023, Peter decided to return to New Mexico and explore the Southwest. Above all, Peter was a devoted father who took immense pride in his children. In a final act of charity, Peter was a multi-organ donor. His legacy is marked by his kindness, caring, and wisdom.
Funeral services will be arranged in New Mexico and New Jersey, with Peters final resting place at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania, alongside his brother Stephen and parents. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Peter, please visit our Tree Store.
