Peter J. Stahlbrodt

Canandaigua - Peter J. Stahlbrodt, age 83, passed away peacefully, on December 3, 2025, after an extended illness. Peter is survived by two sons, John (Deborah) Stahlbrodt and Michael (Pauline) Stahlbrodt; four grandchildren, William Stahlbrodt, Hannah (Chris) LeBeau, Samantha (Leo) Henry, and Alexandros Stahlbrodt; great-grandson, Joseph Stahlbrodt; two sisters, Sally Whitbeck and Joan Lewis; sister-in-law, Cathy (Gene) Laneri; brothers-in-law, Mark Vahey and Tom (Maureen) Welch; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Stahlbrodt in May 2025; brothers-in-law, D. James "Jamie" Whitbeck in 2025 and Roger Lewis in 2022; sister-in-law, Linda Welch in 2000, sister-in-law, Bonnie Vahey in 2024; and nephew, Thomas Hildebrandt in November 2025.
Peter was born in Rochester and was the son of John A. and Betty (Graves) Stahlbrodt. He was a graduate of Brighton High School, class of 1960 and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Tufts University in 1964.
In 1972, Peter and Betty founded The Shopping Bag (later the Greater Rochester Advertiser), a weekly advertising paper. He helmed the business for 40 years until his retirement in 2012. Peter was an avid volunteer, giving his time and energy to many organizations in the Rochester area. He treasured the time he spent with his family and many friends relaxing on Canandaigua Lake, skiing, boating and traveling.
Peter's family would like to extend their appreciation to the compassionate team at Aaron Manor for their great care of he and Betty, during the final years of their lives.
Friends may call Friday, January 16, from 5-7pm, at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His memorial service will follow visitation at the funeral home.
