Obituary

Peter Harold Stewart

Peter Harold Stewart, 79, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at his home in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Pete was born November 5, 1945 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Edna Giguère and Harold Augustus Stewart.

Pete grew up in Worcester and Holden, MA, and graduated from Wachusetts Regional High School. He continued his education at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and graduated from Indiana State University where he earned his BS in chemistry and biology. After college, he served his country in the US Army in Germany, Alabama, Texas, and Korea, obtaining the rank of Captain.

On October 12, 1968, Pete and Linda Eads were married in Oakland City, Indiana. After marriage, Pete left for Germany, and Linda joined him shortly after to live the military life. After seven years of service, he received an honorable discharge.

It was his work for Basic American Foods as quality assurance manager, that led them to life in Indiana, Wisconsin, Idaho, and Oregon. After retirement from Basic American Foods, he furthered his education at Idaho State University School of Aircraft Maintenance. From there, he became a teaching assistant at the school, and loved being near the airplanes for several years.

Pete was a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, fishing, hunting, fly-tying, photography, and shooting as a member of the Cedar Hills Gun Club. He loved flying and building airplanes. A slight adrenaline junkie, ski jumping, parachuting, and his Porsche made him happy.

Pete is survived by his wife, Linda Eads Stewart of Blackfoot; son Andrew (Amy) Stewart of Pocatello, ID and daughter, Leslie (Tony) Westen of Macomb, Illinois; sisters Elizabeth Marble and Susan Flynn, both of Massachusetts; 3 grandchildren, Jocelyn Morgan (Kaden), Brianna Maldonado (Dante) and Abigail; and a great-grandson Bennett.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot, under direction of the Hawker Funeral Home. Military honors will be given by American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23 and the Idaho Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Blackfoot Animal Shelter.

My condolences to Linda,Andrew,Leslie and Stewart family. I've attached a photo (about 1983) as I remember you all and cherish our interactions from years ago. As time heals, I hope your memories offer a peace with the grace Pete lived his life .

Rest in peace, Pete. Some of my most cherished memories are from the summer I spent working in your aircraft hangar at U02. You didn't just trust a high school student with repairing, restoring, and building aircraft like the Piper Pacer and Murphy; you taught me valuable lessons I still carry today and inspired my aerospace engineering degree. I'll never forget those times while I was learning to fly, when you shared your experiences as we soared low and slow over the desert to Cox's Well and other great airstrips. My deepest condolences go out to your family. Blue skies and tailwinds. Fly high, Pete.

May you rest in peace Uncle Peter. Thank you for your service to the country as well as the fond memories I have of you and your family when visiting the west as kids. You introduced me to Yellowstone, Craters of the Moon, Apline slides and the great outdoors (west coast style!). My love and support go to Aunt Linda, Andrew, Leslie, your sisters, your grandchildren and extended family. Tell Grandpa and Nana it's not goodbye, but we'll see you later. <3
