Peter Senling Su, 92, of Newport, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025. Peter had a distinguished career in radiology, first in China and later in the United States. Despite immense challenges and political persecution, he rose to become the department chair at the leading provincial hospital in GuiZhou. Yet, in 1985, he made the courageous decision to leave it all behind in pursuit of freedom and opportunity. Starting over in a new country, he went back to school and earned a master's degree in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
For the next two decades, Peter worked as a medical physicist in Washington, D.C., and
Florida before fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a business owner. Well into his seventies, he opened his own cancer treatment center in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he dedicated himself to helping patients. True to his generous spirit, he never turned anyone away, treating those in need even if they lacked insurance. A tireless learner, Peter amassed a wealth of knowledge across many fields. His keen insights and ability to connect ideas across disciplines often surprised friends, colleagues,
and even strangers. To his peers, Peter was a thought leader and an inventor. At home, he was affectionately known as the "Super Glue Dad" because he could fix just about anything.
Peter is preceded in death by his loving wife, Binbin Zheng Su, his parents, and many siblings. He is survived by his son, Huan-Yu Su, daughters, Jin Su and Danielle Wakai, one brother, one sister, and six grandchildren, Stephen, Anthony, Agnes, Simon, Wesley, and Matthew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Cancer Institute (https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/overview/contributing) or Alzheimer's research at the Mayo Clinic.
