TOCCO, PETER "JIM"JAMES Age 74 June 12, 2025. With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Peter James Tocco. Born and raised in Detroit, MI and son of Onofrio "Humphrey" Tocco and Maude Judd, Peter was a devoted father, proud grandfather, U.S. Army veteran, and beloved friend. Peter passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy rooted in honor, humility, and unconditional love.
Loving father of Lisa (Dave) Dunn, Nicole (Dan) Schouman, Nina Tocco, Onofrio (Courtney) Tocco & Dane (Heather) Tocco. Proud Papa of Tyler (Leah) Dunn, Ian Dunn, Maddie Schouman, Mary Schouman, Brody Tocco, Jack Schouman, Luca Tocco & Peter Tocco. Dearest brother of Paul (Anita) Tocco, John (Mary) Tocco, Tony (Kathy) Tocco, Chris Tocco, Debbie Tocco & the late Carol (the late John) Hinz.
Peter lived a life defined by selflessness, service, and strength. Right after high school, he was married to his beloved late Anne Marie Ellis at 18 years old before he enlisted in the United States Army, serving with distinction in Vietnam as an Army medic and proud member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. His time in service shaped his unwavering character and sense of duty - traits that remained evident in every chapter of his life.
After returning home, Peter built a respected career in Detroit's Eastern Market, where he spent decades in the produce business. Known for his tireless work ethic and honest handshake, Peter wasn't just a businessman - he was a cornerstone of the community, always ready to help others and never seeking credit for his generosity.
Above all, Peter was a family man. A loving father of five children and a cherished papa to eight grandchildren, his greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people he loved most. Whether he was hosting a family dinner, organizing a Sunday get-together, or simply sharing a laugh on the porch, Peter knew how to bring people together. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.
When he wasn't working or entertaining, Peter embraced the simple pleasures - laying out in the sun during the summer, reflecting on life, and enjoying the peace he'd earned. And in those quiet moments, nothing made him happier than smoking a good cigar, savoring it like a well-earned reward.
Peter James Tocco will be remembered as a man of dignity, devotion, and deep love for his family and country. His presence filled every room, his loyalty knew no bounds, and his impact will be felt forever by those lucky enough to have known him.
Memorial Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 3-9pm with a 7:00pm Rosary. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:30am at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP).
