Phillip A. Carpenter - age 67, of Knoxville formerly of Kingsport, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 29, 2024 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Phil was born and raised in Kingsport and was a 1974 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. He played trombone in the high school band as well as for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band at the University of Tennessee. Phil earned multiple degrees from both East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee in engineering. He retired in 2012 from the Department of Energy, and was passionate about HAM radio. Phil was also a Bricklin car enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert John Carpenter and Juanita Carpenter; brother-in-law, Bill Carter. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Ann Carpenter; son, Christopher Carpenter and wife Kasey; daughter, Katie Ann Carpenter and fiancé Michael Eisenhower; grandsons, Mason and Beau Carpenter; sisters, Jan Whitman and husband Chuck, and Roseanna Bishop and husband Phil; several cousins and nieces.
Phil will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and papaw.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 -7:00 pm at Rose Funeral and Cremation - Mann. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Phil's name be made to the Isaiah 117 house at www.isaiah117house.com.
